The bright object in the lower left corner is the reflection nebula NGC 1999, which contains the young star V380 Orionis. The star is so young that it is still surrounded by a cloud of material left over from its formation, seen here as the Reflection Nebula NGC 1999.
The gas and dust of the nebula are remnants of the star’s formation. This wide-angle panorama of star formation was taken with the National Science Foundation’s Mayall 4-metre telescope on Kitt Peak.
