The planets all formed from this rotating disk-shaped cloud and continued this rotating course around the sun after they were formed. The total energy of an orbital system combines the kinetic energy in the motion of objects and the potential gravitational energy between them.
The revolving thing therefore remains at the same distance from the one it revolves around. Just as the moon orbits the Earth due to Earth’s gravity, the Earth orbits the Sun due to the sun’s gravitational pull.
