Anyone who is surprised that the moon can be seen during the day will be amazed that, under the right conditions, you can also see the planet Venus with the sun in the sky. Search for words like “halo around the sun,” “rainbow,” “dazzling clouds,” “glory,” here at EarthSky. Like the sun, it is half the time below the horizon. Stars along with the brighter planets already mentioned can usually only be seen with the naked human eye in the daytime sky (i.e. when the sun is above the horizon) during a total solar eclipse.
Sirius and several other very bright stars are at the theoretical limit on the best days. On the other hand, telescopes allow observers to see certain bright stars (not to mention the bright planets) on any clear day, although there are few scientific reasons for doing so.
Can you see the planets with a telescope during the day?
Since it can be pretty obvious to see the moon with the naked eye, it can help us find some of the brighter planets as well. Medium and large telescopes also offer views of Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn in light-polluted areas. In the weeks before and after this event (which is called the inferior conjunction of Venus), the planet will be visible as a crescent moon in a telescope, just as you can see in John Ashley’s photo above.
Can you see Jupiter during the day?
With a telescope and a camera, I’m sure Jupiter (large bands of clouds), Saturn, Venus (phases and maybe shading), Mars (just to say you did). It’s great fun to follow them on an evening, especially when the moons pass in front of or behind Jupiter, or when they cast a shadow on the big planet. They use an excellent connection especially for Jupiter and Saturn due to the high level size of the planets. Callisto could appear closer to Jupiter’s disc than Io, for example, if it is preparing to pass behind the planet.
Although I personally haven’t seen Mars in the daytime sky (I’ve seen Jupiter twice), a correspondent in the Middle East reported me what appears to be a real observation, and I have no doubt that it’s possible.
Which planet can be seen today?
We get a good evening for the entire second half of April when the small planet in the constellation of Aries begins before it merges into Taurus on April 25. As a result, ephemeris for minor planets are usually not calculated well in advance, as this could lead to significant positional errors. Venus is closer to Earth than any other planet — within 26 million miles (41 million km). Neptune, the farthest planet in the solar system, can only be seen with binoculars or a telescope.
Venus observations are stable in June and reward very early risers with a great view of the planet above the eastern horizon.
Do observatories work during the day?
Other single, bright stars can be seen in daylight through a telescope or really powerful binoculars. As a result of this geometry, Saturn’s disk will be fully illuminated from Earth. Before I jump into the full list with all the details, I thought it helpful to share a table with my ranking of the best observatories in the USA. It would be better to prepare “not to see the Milky Way outside most of the listed observatories (especially those east of the Mississippi River).
